storyline After finding out how much his trust fund was worth, Dick decided it was time to get a car. He rented out an old showroom to do his thing. He built the vehicle so that he could interchange the body when needed. He took it out for a test drive, not knowing a man-bat was watching from above.

storyline Dudley Soames awakened from his coma and learned it was impossible to ever be "straight" again. After stopping two people trying to shoot the man-bat down, Nightwing visited Francie Langstrom. He promised that he'd bring her husband - Dr. Kirk Langstrom - the Man-Bat - home. He and Man-Bat were both shot down with tranquilizer by Deathstroke.

storyline Nightwing woke up hours later and updated Mrs. Langstrom on the situation with her husband. After meeting the man who used to be the superhero Tarantula, Tad got delusions of grandeur. Man-Bat was going to be exploited by a direct-to-video crew. Nightwing was able to free him, but he could not return him to his wife.

Dick learned of the earthquake from TV at work. He bolted, grabbed a boat and headed to his former home. He was taken aback by the sheer destruction in Gotham City. He began helping victims trapped under a collapsed highway as soon as he got ashore.

Nightwing and Robin met at the clocktower to see if Oracle was ok (it was the first time Barbara and Tim met face-to-face). No one had seen Batman, but he was ok - saving victims from rubble in the guise of a police officer. Dick and Tim checked out the destruction at Wayne Manor and the Cave. Tim rushed off to check on his father; Dick located Alfred and Harold.

storyline Dick returned home. Tad had invented himself as Nite-Wing (oblivious to the real Nightwing) and was shot up on his first night out. When he heard that his apartment building had been condemned, Dick purchased it and scheduled a full renovation. Soames began learning to walk again. Roland Desmond (Blockbuster) contacted police chief Redhorn - they both sent people to the hospital to finish off (the incorrect) Nightwing.

storyline A very concerned Oracle got in touch with Dick - she told him of the reports that he was in the hospital. He suited up and went after the imposter. Cops, Blockbuster's men, and Ali's men were all there trying to kill the wrong man. Nightwing saved the guy and gave him to Alfred to take to Dr. Thompkins.

Black Canary and Bronze Tiger neared their target; Bamboo Monkey showed up to face Green Arrow, who easily defeated him. Deathstroke captured Canary and Tiger in the Monkey Temple. Nightwing found the monkey hideout in some Gotham City wreckage. As the batsquad moved in, Nightwing and Green Arrow encountered Paper Monkey - Lady Shiva Woosan.
