storyline After saving a young girl from an attacker, Huntress is reminded of her past: growing up as Helena Bertinelli in a mob family, getting kidnapped at an early age, coming home from college to witness her entire family murdered. She used her world-class gymnastics background, some martial arts training, and her vengeance to become the Huntress.

storyline Huntress broke up a gang war and faced off against Omerta the Silencer. She captured a box that contained her father's preserved eyes and fingers, only to lose it later to one of the gangs. Omerta ambushed the gang and regained it.

storyline The Bertinelli lawyer convinced Helena that her father was alive. Once she arrived, she realized that it was only a rigged puppet with recordings of her father. Omerta attacked her. Helena escaped and forced her bodyguard, Tony Angelo (who played a major part in training her), to tell her everything he knew. He stayed with her because he knew the same man that had abused his sister had kidnapped Helena as a child. Helena fired Tony. Omerta (actually her father's lawyer) captured her.

storyline Helena learned quickly why her father was mutilated - his vast underground safe had been found. It required a retina scan (his eyes), fingerprint scan (his hand), and blood sample (Helena) to open. Omerta's employer shot and killed him; Helena left him to die after a struggle. Inside the vault, Helena discovered a journal written in code.

storyline Huntress gave half of her father's journal to O'Shea, a cop who'd let her go twice, to decipher. The other half went to a TV reporter who'd been scarred by the mob. O'Shea could do nothing with the code, so he gave it to a master cryptologist inmate, Alexander Wyvern. Wyvern said it was all useless drivel and plotted an escape with his new knowledge. Huntress found her reporter dead.

storyline After the second half of the journal was in Wyvern's hands, he realized it was a copy. He sought the original. He went after Helena, but killed an incorrect Bertinelli. Helena and Tony made up. A truck transporting Uranium and Plutonium was hijacked en route to Canada.

storyline A lady came forth claiming to be Guido Bertinelli's mistress to publicise her new book. She became an obvious target for Wyvern, who also had it in for women. A boy was kidnapped from a science fair after building a small nuclear bomb.
