Clark
returned to the office after surveying the damage
from Superman's last battle. He peered through Lois's
office wall and saw her with Brainiac. He burst
in and flew her home; she didn't know what he was
making all the fuss about. He activated the security
system and flew to his fortress of solitude. Brainiac
had possessed his robot Superman guard. He pointed
Superman to his location seven miles beneath the
ocean.
Brainiac taunted him - he'd been in Lois's mind.
He told Superman she feared him, just like everyone
else did. They fought, and he presented to him Lois,
Lana Lang, Perry White, and Jimmy Olsen - all in
his captivity.
Superman awakened with blood on his hands and the
JLA standing over him. |

Martian
Manhunter appeared at the Kent residence to "protect"
Lois. Other superheroes were elsewhere guarding
Superman's loved ones. The JLA got to Superman and
tried to have him remember what had happened, who's
blood was on his hands. He remembered fighting Darkseid,
but that was another false memory (like fighting
Brainiac).
They took him to his victim - Batman. |

played back recordings of the incident. Superman,
unprovoked, attacked Batman while he looked for
his satellite from the tower. Wonder Woman came
in and stopped him. Superman said he thought he
was fighting Ruin. J'onn, with Diana, entered Superman's
mind in hopes of stopping the mind control he was
under. Inside him, they found that Max Lord was
controlling the Man of Steel. He agreed to let them
put him in a teleportation loop that he would be
unable to escape. While preparing, Superman realized
he wasn't being controlled - everyone else was.
He attacked and left.
Diana, with Batman's Kryptonite, went after him.
She found him in Max Lord's service. |

Superman
saw Wonder Woman as Doomsday in the midst of murdering
Lois. He grabbed her and flew her toward the sun.
Wonder Woman was able to get her Kryptonite out
and flash him with it. He threw her back to earth,
where she crashed into a freeway. While she was
stunned, Superman continued his attack. She was
able to get out of his site and get a blow in from
behind. She called birds to her aide - she only
needed to distract him long enough to get to Maxwell
Lord. She made it to him and he temporarily released
Superman. He vowed to control him as long as he
lived, so Wonder Woman twisted his neck around.
Lord's lifeless body fell to the floor. |
