storyline Jay Garrick - the Flash - stopped an accident involving a federal convoy transporting explosives.
Bart Allen, and his roommate Griffin Grey, got up and headed to work at Keystone Motors. STAR Labs engineers pondered the Speed Force and Bart, who'd not been in contact with them in some time.
Later that night, Griffin and Allen went clubbing. The next morning, Valerie Perez from STAR visited Bart. He brushed her off - he was no longer in the superhero business and wanted no part of it.
A bomb exploded at Keystone Motors - Bart and Griffin were both in the blast. Bart was able to use the speed force and help Griffin; Jay got him to a hospital. Bart vowed to never again use the speed force - he wouldn't allow it to kill him.

storyline Bart went to Jay and Joan about the speed force. They tried to explain to him that the Flash was his destiny, but he still wanted no part of it.
Valerie, the intern from STAR who'd become interested in Bart, was having problems with her father.
Griffin miraculously healed from all his injuries and went home from the hospital. He and Bart headed back to the scene of the crime. The Press caught Griffin using what appeared to be electric powers to save a man from falling.
Bart visited STAR - they'd replicated Barry's suit. He took it into it's ring. He continued to have dreams that Barry and Wally were speaking to him through the speed force.
As he headed back to STAR in hopes of getting rid of it, an explosion rang out. He got into costume and ran for it.

Subtitle Lightning in a Bottle part three: Night of the Griffin

storyline Bart saved Val from the explosion and put out the fires. He told her wearing the suit didn't make him the Flash and left.
Griffin's powers were changing - getting stronger. He decided to become a hero and profit from it.
Valerie's parental situation came to light at STAR - her father was Manfred Mota, one of the Flash's (all three) worst villains as Atom Smasher then Professor Fallout then Fusionn.
Val ran some tests on Bart then told him that she'd been saved by him before, when he was Kid Flash. They kissed.
Griffin made himself a costume and went out to work a hostage situation. The Flash (Jay) showed him up by saving both him and the child.
Griffin got an ID on the bomber and went after him. He called the police as the suspect and requested the Flash.

storyline With the Flash (Jay) off on a while goose chase, the Griffin set out to make himself into a hero. He succeeded with the Flash watching. Though the bomber was killed, Griffin was still awarded the reward for his apprehension: $100,000.
Griff brought some girls home the next day (after buying a new sports car), but he found his hand looked elderly and told everyone to leave.
STAR Labs told Bart he was the speed force - it was now all concentrated on / in him. He spoke with Val, who'd been fired due to her father. He "ran" her home.
Elsewhere, the Flash (Jay) was attempting to stop a high-speed chase when he looked up to find the Griffin's roadblock. He was able to save the suspects. Jay told him heroes didn't leave corpses and noticed he'd aged. Bart visited him later and Griff attacked him. Bart was forced to get into costume to stop from being killed.
Mota finally tracked down his daughter.

Subtitle Lightning in a Bottle part five: Missing in Action

storyline Cyborg found Bart (in costume) and took him somewhere safe to talk. Vic tried to explain to him that his fear was causing him to loose control, not the speed force.
He, Jay, and Joan met for dinner, but Bart got worried when Val was late. He sped off to her home, but found it empty with a note. He returned to dinner and they saw the Griffin drive by. Both Flashes went after him. Bart tried to talk to him, but got zapped. He told Jay where Griff was going and they stopped the situation before he could get there. He began whining in front of the cops, and they all made fun of him. He lashed out at the Flashes and hitched a ride on a nearby helicopter.
Val woke up in a dungeon with Inertia (Tad Thawne) guarding her. Mota arrived, now simply a being of energy. He planned to use her DNA to recreate a body for himself - Inertia would be bringing technology from his own time into the equation.
Griff realized that he was aging rapidly and Jay never aged. He set out to take that power from the Flash. He broke into STAR, stole some equipment, and kidnapped Jay. He tried to explain that he was a meta and no longer connected to the speed force.
Bart found out about the theft and Jay's disappearance and got into costume.

Subtitle Lightning in a Bottle part six: Burning Bridges

storyline Bart - the Flash - found the location of the power spike that the stolen STAR equipment could have made. He found the Griffin in an abandoned subway station. He tried to tie him up, but the kid escaped. Flash found Jay, who's heart had stopped. He gave him a little zap and got him to a nearby ER.
Griffin sabotaged a bridge so he could save people when it collapsed. Bart heard the collapse and was at the scene in no time. He fought his former roommate; Griffin died realizing Bart was the true hero.
In Jay's hospital room, Bart told everyone he'd regained his memories from the Superboy-Prime event: he, Max Mercury, Wally, and Barry were trying to beat him back to their Earth; Wally gave Bart the ring. Bart volunteered to take the speed everyone fed him.
