storyline Chapter One: Analog Heroes
1945. One of Hitler's top scientists was secretly transported across the Pacific to avoid detection. When the plane went missing, a rescue squad was sent: The Losers (Captain Storm, Sarge Peterson, Gunner Wilson, and John Cloud). The Losers themselves crashed onto the island thought to be the location. Once on land, they saw a dinosaur. Gunner was killed in the attack; the biped creature left after losing an arm. They soon found a cave that had been recently used. They decided to camp there and wait for its occupants to return. They awakened the next morning to fire - flying dinosaurs attacked. Another Loser died. The remainder, Cloud, happened upon Colonel Flagg (the leader of the mission they were sent to rescue). Flagg told him Peterson was dead, too. Cloud was the last of the Losers. Flagg was also the only survivor of his group. He had film of the scientist's notes. Cloud got Flagg to the ship, but he stayed behind, hell-bent on killing the monster. The next morning, Cloud fell prey to one of the booby traps Flagg had set. He drug himself up, armed his grenades, and jumped into the mouth of the dinosaur.
1948. A young Hal Jordan met his hero, Chuck Yeager - a man who'd flown with his father.
Chapter Two: State of the Union Suit
1952. A bill had been passed making vigilantism a federal offense. Rex Tyler - Hourman - was one of the few who refused to give up his mask. He fell to his death along with four policemen who chased him. Roy Raymond was brought before the HUAC and labeled a communist sympathizer. The Justice Society of America was the HUAC's next target. Refusing to reveal their secret identities, the JSA disbanded. Superman and Wonder Woman had given in; Superman had been tasked with helping take down the other masked vigilantes. In Gotham City, the Bat-Man had escaped the Man of Steel recently.
Led by Colonel Rick Flagg, Task Force X was formed from the ashes of the Suicide Squad.
Chapter Three: Heavy Traffic in Mig Alley
1953. A few hours after the Korean War ended, American fighter jets were attacked. Airman Hal Jordan's was hit. He ejected, but was knocked unconscious and could not operate his parachute. Another airman - Colonel Ace Morgan - ejected, got to him, and pulled his ripcord.
Nearby, journalist Lois Lane and stowaway photographer Jimmy Olsen covered the war. They were taking a helicopter out, but it's pilot got word of Jordan nearby needing help. Jordan landed but was attacked by locals not knowing the war was over. Jordan, having sworn to never kill, was forced to in order to save his own life. Once aboard the helicopter, he remembered the Korean words for "It's over. Make war no more."

storyline Chapter Four: Gods and Monsters
A scientist attempting to send / receive a radio signals into / from deep space instead brought an alien into his observatory. The man's weak heart gave out at it's sight and he died. His last words were a warning to the creature: the world was not ready for him.
Superman and Wonder Woman were sent to Indo-China to clean up the war torn area. Wonder Woman had been sent to recover a downed "nonexistent" US plane when she discovered a camp holding women as slaves. Once her mission was over, she freed them. She handed the weapons over to the women and allowed them to kill their captors. When Superman didn't approve, she gave him her slant and told him to leave.
1955. The alien, a shape-shifting telepath, quickly got into the culture of America by use of the television. He'd learned he could not return to Mars via Dr. Erdel's machine. He realized he must find a job so he could get more money and continue to live. He also decided he must be a force for good. J'onn J'onzz became John Jones, police detective.
1956. Central City police scientist Barry Allen was struck by lightning while in his lab. He suffered only minor cuts and bruises.
1957. PI Slam Bradly partnered with Gotham City detective John Jones on a kidnapping case. Jones found the kid and they moved in only to witness the Batman in action. He took down dozens of what appeared to be cult members and handed the child over to the detectives. Jones found a locked book.
Chapter Five: Fun City
38 year-old boxing Champion Ted "Wildcat" Grant faced off against a young upstart named Clay. He won on blind rage. After the fight, Oliver Queen, Bruce Wayne and his date, Lois Lane, were introduced to Col. Flagg by Carol Ferris.
Barry Allen was called by his girlfriend, Iris. She was at the same after party. Captain Cold attacked. Allen was in costume and there in a Flash. Cold warned Flash that six bombs would detonate across the city in 30 seconds. He rounded up five and realized the "sixth" was a wild goose chase. The Flash returned and took down Captain Cold.
One of Hal Jordan's friends set him up an interview with Ferris Aircraft.

storyline Chapter Six: The Men who Fell to Earth
1957. A man awakened from a nightmare - he was the only survivor of a plane crash. He got out of bed and hit the road on his motorcycle. At the crash site, Red me up with the rest of the Challengers of the Unknown.
Hal Jordan accepted a position with Ferris Aircraft. He was greeted by Col. Flagg on his first day and informed that it would be considered and Air Force facilities for the work he'd be doing. After a few months, he wrote his brother about his experiences there.
A member of Task Force X died in combat against a flying dinosaur above the Statue of Liberty.
A man in Tennessee fought back against the KKK.
Chapter Seven: Paranormal Paranoia
John Jones attended a film called Invasion from Mars in order to telepathically feel what the audience felt. John was the only person in the audience who thought it was a comedy. He returned home to find Batman waiting for him. They talked about the cult thing they'd broken up a year and a half earlier. Batman showed him a medallion he'd grabbed from the leader and told Jones to stay on the case. Batman knew he was an alien and threatened to take him down like he'd done to "the one in Metropolis."
Superman and Wonder Woman were made honorary citizens of the United States. After the ceremony, it was hinted to Wonder Woman that she should disappear.
Carol introduced Hal Jordan to "the real Ferris Aircraft" - an underground bunker full of unknown vessels with dozens of men hard at work on them. Flagg introduced him to King Faraday. He was told "NASA" would be made public shortly and they'd planned to send a man into orbit (in order to combat the Russians sending a dog). Faraday told him about the Erdel situation and their belief that a Martian was on Earth. A Mars mission was planned.
With the medallion he'd been given by Batman, J'onn was able to open the book he'd picked up at the cult scene. It told of a Viking prince who'd washed ashore on an island full of dinosaurs.

Chapter Eight: Government Issues
1958. The Flash was captured by government agents, but he simply disappeared.
1959. While going over the John Henry case, John Jones was given a new one - an engineer from Ferris Aircraft was brought after shooting a cop saying Martians were going to take over the Earth. During interrogation, Faraday came in and collected the man. After shaking his hand, J'onn knew it was all true.
Jordan was removed from the Mars mission for "showboating."
John Henry baited the KKK. He was wounded in an explosion and turned in by a child. He was burned alive. A television news show reported on him, his real name was John Wilson. He was a hero of the Korean War and had taken up vigilantism after his wife and child were killed by the Klan.
Superman found Diana on Paradise Island and asked her why she'd "retired." She told him she was forced out.
J'onn watched TV and saw the Flash take over a station. He thanked everyone for the last three years and told them he was retiring due to the attempt made on his life by his own country. J'onn decided he must go home. Through Gordon, he contacted Batman and handed over his files.
Chapter Nine: The Flying Cloud
Ferris Aircraft, under the guise of a missile test, prepared to send the Flying Cloud to Mars. J'onzz, attempting to stow away on the rocket, was apprehended by King Faraday. The Martian gave up his chance to get home and saved the man from the launch. He woke up the next day in captivity. Faraday was called back to mission control - one of the astronauts had flipped out and damaged the ship. Flagg reported back to Jordan that he'd flown with his father and had taken him off the mission due to its survival chances.
The Challengers of the Unknown blasted off in hopes of helping the rocket touch down safely; Faraday called them off. Superman was called in when they didn't listen. Three warheads were aboard the Flying Cloud. Superman got to the ship in time to save the Challengers; Flagg self-destructed the Cloud.
Hal Jordan met a mechanic at Ferris named Tom. He saw a green blast and the simulator he was in took off.

storyline Chapter Ten: S.O.S. Green Lantern
Hal was given a strange green ring by an alien named Abin Sur who'd crashed on Earth. As he crashed, the ring brought Jordan to him. Hal put it on and realized the alien was not lying - it followed his will. He was told he would need to recharge it once per day and that he would be given more instruction later. He buried the alien craft under a mountain he was able to move.
While giving a tour to Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen, the Challengers of the Unknown responded to a signal - a dinosaur was attacking Cape Canaveral.
Chapter Eleven: Towards the Centre
After Clark Kent did some investigation, Superman met with Batman and Robin. A darkness covered Paradise Island. King and J'onn J'onzz played chess and discussed the impending doom.
As the Challengers approached the giant beast, they were called off; Bishop Six (Superman) was on the scene.
Beneath the ocean, a man commanded an army of sealife.
Chapter Twelve: The War That Time Forgot
Wonder Woman crashed her plane near Superman. A giant (approx. 25 miles) beast surfaced off the coast of Florida and began attacking.
Chapter Thirteen: Danger is our Business
Iris gave Barry his outfit and told him to show the world he was a hero. King Faraday asked J'onn to join him, he was going out with his men against the monster. Green Arrow, the Sea Devils, and the Blackhawks all headed to Florida. Carol found Hal messing with one of their experimental aircrafts and realized he was heading to Florida, too. They kissed and he blasted off.
Chapter Fourteen: The Boy Scout's Last
The floating island continued to send out monsters. Wonder Woman told Superman it had destroyed Paradise Island and he would have to lead the forces against it if it were to be defeated. After a rousing speech, everyone was behind the Man of Steel. Superman went toward the beast for a recon. He was blasted by it and fell limp into the ocean.

Chapter Fifteen: Shall Earth Endure?
Lois Lane reported the fall of Superman then broke down. The Challengers attempted to console her. Dr. Leslie Thompkins released Adam Strange from Arkham Asylum. He visited Ray Palmer and asked him to help.
Hal had to crash land the flying saucer. After being unable to fix it, he ordered the ring to power it.
King Faraday apologized to the Flash; Barry decked him.
Ray Palmer had been working on a device that would shrink matter, but there was a flaw: once shrunk, the matter was unstable.
Chapter Sixteen: The Dawn Patrol
The plan was worked out. One flight would go in to create a diversion, while another dropped warheads on the Centre. As this went on, the Flash was to rush around it blasting it with Palmer's device. Faraday told the group the Centre was merely a scout - if it went free, others would follow.
As the planes went in, Faraday tried to get J'onn to safety. The monster possessed him. Faraday was able to draw it out of the alien, but it cost his life. J'onzz took flight and began attacking the creature - he vowed his friend would not die in vain.
Chapter Seventeen: The Pure Rugged
The three planes inside the Centre began to fall apart. Jordan gave up on waiting for his message from the battery and used the ring to its fullest. He was able to save one of his wingmates, but Captain Nathaniel Adam was killed. The Flash was a success; the Centre began to contract. Wonder Woman saved him from his own speed. Green Lantern cast a shield around the Centre so its explosion would not harm the people nearby. As he poured himself into it, the Guardians revealed their mission and purpose to him. He hurled it into space.
With the imminent threat gone, a celebration erupted around the world. King Arthur of Atlantis showed up on the coast and gave them Superman - he'd rescued the hero.
Epilogue: The New Frontier
With the dawning of the 1960s came the JLA and the Teen Titans. A new frontier was gained.
