The
Flash of Two Worlds
Barry Allen was supposed to meet his girlfriend,
Iris for lunch. He was late as usual, but so was
her guest entertainment for the orphans. Barry told
her he had to go, but would ask the Flash to fill
in for her missing magician. After performing a
trick, the Flash found himself to be lost. He learned
that he'd not gone through a time warp, but was
in Keystone City instead of Central City. Just for
fun, and remembering comics he'd read as a kid,
Flash looked up Jay Garrick in the phone book. Sure
enough, he was there. Barry Allen paid him a visit.
The Jay Garrick was indeed the Flash of that world.
Barry explained to him what had happened, and inspired
his hero to come out of retirement. They teamed
up in hopes of taking down a robber who'd already
scored three times, leaving the police baffled.
The Thinker, the Fiddler, and the Shade - all criminals
put in prison by the Flash (Jay), were now free
men working together. Jay found the Thinker, but
was baffled by him. He escaped with a jewel stolen
from a local millionaire. Barry found the Shade,
but was also outdone. The Flashes met back at the
Garrick home.
They found the Fiddler at a museum. The Thinker
and the Shade realized there must be two of them
and went to lend a hand to their comrade, who had
the Flashes dancing to his violin. They broke free
of his spell and grabbed all three criminals. After
they were delivered to the police, Barry returned
home and decided to look up Gardner Fox, who'd written
the old Flash Comics.
Double
Danger on Earth
In the universe holding Earth-2 (that of Jay Garrick
and the JSA), a comet crashed into the sun threatening
the world with deadly radiation. Garrick found a
meteor which would disburse the radiation, but it
disappeared. In attempt to find more of it, he tried
to visit Barry Allen's Earth (1).
Jay made it and followed Barry's trail to a costume
ball where he was dressed as ... the Flash. Jay
found Captain Cold and Trickster trying to make
off with the charity money and went after them.
Barry noticed the happenings and joined his doppleganger
The villains stopped fighting each other long enough
to stop the Flashes.
They escaped the ice cubes Captain Cold had placed
them in. Jay headed west to find the meteor (and
was successful); Barry stayed put waiting for Cold
and Trickster to strike again. Using the found meteor,
the Flashes trapped Captain Cold and Trickster by
announcing to the media that it contained a billion
dollars worth of diamonds. They captured the crooks
and returned to Jay's earth to save it from the
radiation. Using rockets, dust was sprayed into
the atmosphere, nullifying the radiation. Jay gave
Barry a synthetic in case the same thing ever happened
in his universe.
Vengeance
of the Immortal Villain
Barry "Flash" Allen began to investigate
strange light phenomena occurring above cities.
The lights seemed to halt communications and electronics
where they were seen. He also noticed they were
seen in cities corresponding to those protected
by the JSA in his old comics. Barry made it to Earth-2,
where Jay told him the same thing was happening
on his world. The heroes in the lighted cities were
also missing. The Flashes headed out when Keystone
City lit up. Jay was captured, but Barry tracked
him down and rescued him.
Vandal Savage wondered what had happened to his
seventh cube - he'd captured all of the JSA save
for the Flash (Dr. Mid-Nite, Hawkman, Wonder Woman,
Green Lantern, the Atom, and Johnny Thunder). The
immortal soon captured both Jay and Barry. They
temporarily escaped, but were again under Savage's
control.
As he prepared another trap for them, the Flash
pair freed the other JSA members, who captured Savage.
They decided to come out of retirement like their
Flash. Barry returned home and called Iris.
Invader
from the Dark Dimension
Barry and Iris went shopping for an engagement ring.
As soon as she found one she wanted, it was swallowed
up by a growing blackness. The Flash could do nothing
with it, but it eventually faded away - with all
the jewelry it swallowed up. Iris headed out to
cover the story after dropping Barry off at the
police station. Flash went after more of the strange
creatures which were popping up all over the city.
He was able to stop the creatures by combining lightning
strikes. He hoped he could visit Earth-2 to find
Iris another ring like the one that had been lost.
After analyzing vibrations from the objects, Barry
realized they had a connection to the Shade - a
villain of the other Flash. He headed to Earth-2,
where he found Jay's wife had the same engagement
ring. The Shade was, in fact, at large. They tracked
him and learned he'd been stealing loot on Earth-1
and selling it on Earth-2. He'd been able to catch
the Flash's vibrational pattern and duplicate it.
When the Flashes tried to stop him, he captured
them.
With Jay out of commission, Barry headed back to
Earth-1 in attempt to grab the Shade's wand, which
gave him control of his dark creations. He coated
himself in gold so the dark creatures would attempt
to steal him. It worked and he nabbed the Shade.
He handed him over to Earth-1's police and gave
his cane to the Flash of Earth-2.
Barry gave Iris the ring he'd recovered.
Solomon
Grundy Goes on a Rampage
Kent Nelson noticed his crystal ball shining - he
quickly got into his Dr. Fate outfit to deal with
Solomon Grundy, who'd escaped from the encasing
Green Lantern (Alan Scott) had created for him.
By the time he found the creature, Hourman was already
battling him. The two heroes thwarted each others'
attacks, giving the beast the upper hand.
Grundy left them unconscious and headed to Gotham
City. He broke into a bank hoping to get Green Lantern's
(AS) attention. They did battle - Grundy throwing
wooden objects at him - until Hourman and Dr. Fate
arrived. Overtaken by magic, the two began fighting
each other.
With Hourman and Dr. Fate knocked out again, Grundy
grabbed up Green Lantern and wandered off. He soon
happened upon members of his old gang and helped
them loot a jewelry store. Fate and Hourman realized
their powers had adverse reactions on the other's
and headed out to save GL. Hourman took down the
gang while Fate tracked Grundy. He found the monster
back home in his swamp and saved Green Lantern (who'd
become a beast as well). Using their powers together,
Green Lantern and Dr. Fate created an energy / magic
cage to hold Grundy. They placed it in orbit of
the Earth.
Perils
of the Psycho-Pirate
Archeologist Kent Nelson (alter ego of Dr. Fate)
discovered several golden "Medusa Masks"
while on a dig. While on display, Rex Tyler's (Hourman)
fiancé was compelled to steal them when someone
placed a flame below one of the masks.
Roger Hayden, the benefactor of the original Psycho
Pirate, had taken on the name. When he heard the
masks would be on display, he set his plan in motion.
Dr. Fate saw him robbing a bank and went to check
it out. Psycho Pirate escaped with the loot after
giving Fate a dose of pride and frustration.
Hoping to clear his girlfriend's name, Hourman caught
up with the Psycho Pirate, but was duped into believing
the criminal was his friend. He actually helped
the man steal a priceless statue. Dr. Fate showed
up and they compared notes. They found the Pirate
and went at him. He used emotions against them,
but Dr. Fate was faking and captured him.
With Psycho Pirate behind bars, Rex Tyler cleared
his girlfriend's name and told her who he really
was.
Secret
Origin of the Guardians
On Earth-2, Alan Scott heard of a nearing meteor
and went after it as Green Lantern. When is power
beam hit it, it seemed to disappear. Oddly, after
the encounter, his ring no longer had a weakness
to wood. Alan vibrated to Earth-1 to talk to Hal
Jordan (Earth-1's Green Lantern). When they met,
the weakness to wood returned. Jordan was intrigued.
Alan's ring told him the meteor was actually pure
energy which was 10 billion years old. On Oa, an
immortal scientist named Krona attempted to witness
the dawn of time. An accident occurred and evil
was created. As punishment, Krona was imprisoned
in energy and blasted from their planet. To combat
the evil, Oans created the Guardians of the Universe.
The Guardians created the Green Lanterns to be their"police"
force.
When Alan's ring blasted the "meteor,"
Krona moved into it. Once on Earth-1, he escaped.
Hal notified the Guardians as evil began to crop
up all over Earth-1. Together, they stopped a tsunami,
volcano, and tornado. A group of Guardians arrived
on Earth and took Hal's ring from him - Alan was
replacing him as their GL of Earth.
Krona had possessed Alan Scott before they met with
the Guardians and was using mind control against
them. Hal challenged him to a duel to see who the
true GL was. Krona-as-Alan defeated him by shielding
himself in yellow. Krona returned to his own body
and continued his experiments to find the origin
of the universe (shielding himself with Alan's ring,
which was not of that universe). Alan's disembodied
spirit found Hal and warned him of Krona. As they
fought, the Guardians destroyed his machine. Krona
was again reduced to energy and blasted away.
Alan returned to Earth-2.
Mastermind
of Menaces
While visiting Park City, Ted Knight (Starman) visited
the Drake Flower Shoppe and said hello to Dinah.
She gave him a flower and invited him to dinner
with her and Lance later that night. Ted headed
off to do some stargazing and somehow intercepted
a transmission via the flower. He got into costume
and headed to the location it prescribed. There,
he found a wealthy man dropping off loot. Unable
to use his cosmic rod due to the inability to see
starlight, Starman went after the mobsters with
his bare hands. As he was about to get the upper-hand,
one of the men used a flower to blast him with sonics.
Dazed, Starman watched as the criminals escaped.
Elsewhere, the Mist watched his people defeat his
old foe.
Starman and Larry Lance both arrived back at the
flower shop at about the same time with the news
- Dinah was the key to several recent crimes. She
ordered them out of her office, but they watched
by using Starman's cosmic rod. She announced to
some flowers what wealthy customers she'd be serving
the next day. The Mist listened in.
The guys told her what had happened. Dinah suited
up, and the trio split up to watch for the upcoming
events. Black Canary was first to get action - she
found and took down three mobsters set to steal
jewels from one of her customers. Starman also got
some of the robbers, while Larry found their boss's
hideout.
The Mist's men captured Larry and waited for Canary
and Starman to arrive. Starman's cosmic rod was
nullified by the Mists harmonics, but Canary was
able to use the one he'd given her (which worked
from quasars instead of stars). Together, they took
down the Mist's instruments and his men. After rescuing
Larry, they handed the bad guys over to the authorities
and had dinner.
The
Hour Hourman Died
Hourman returned home from a patrol to find someone
coming out of his safe. The man was stealing blueprints
from Hourman's alter ego, Rex Tyler. Hourman was
able to get a Miraclo pill down, but was killed
by the man's device which allowed him to walk through
the metal door of the safe.
The killer, "Tricky" Dick Arnold, fled.
Somehow, though he had no pulse, etc., Hourman revived.
He realized he must find the device which had "killed"
him before the Miraclo wore off or he'd be dead
for good.
Arnold tossed the "metalizer" and blueprints
off a toll bridge and left town (fearing both the
police and JSA would be after him). Hourman found
the device, but it was ruined by the water. He continued
to follow the radiation trail, which led him to
his murderer. Using the man's loot, Hourman devised
a cure for himself, then delivered Dick Arnold to
jail.
