The
Oceanmaster, Aquaman's brother, attacked New Venice,
Florida. The siblings fought as the city crumbled.
Mera pleaded her husband for help with saving the
citizens. Orm somehow had gained tremendous power
and easily defeated Arthur. When Aquaman awakened,
Mera told him no one had been killed in the blast,
but several were injured. She reminded him that
the city was attacked simply because he lived there.
Aquaman finally grasped how bad the city had been
torn apart.
He was summoned back to Atlantis by the king. En
route, he was attacked by an octopus. The creature
did not respond to his telepathy. It took him into
a secret entrance, where Vulko - Atlantis' king
- apologized for the mechanical attack. Vulko explained
that Arthur's rule had opened Atlantis up to both
other under water cities and the surface world.
Atlanteans were in an upheaval, and the royal seal
had been stolen. He believed the Thierna na Oge
had stolen it - a race of powerful under water women.
Aquaman donned a new outfit (purple, white, and
blue) hoping to find the seal without being recognized.
He was captured while sneaking into the city. |

Arthur
awakened in chains he could not break. A woman
with a metal arm explained they could not be broken
by brute force or magic. She was summoned away
to the king's chambers.
Orm attacked the lighthouse where Arthur grew
up.
The king, a woman, used her magic to get into
the "outsider's" mind. She found the
truth - he was there by request of his king in
hopes of preventing war.
Vulko realized he had no more time; his people's
rage must be let loose. War was declared on the
surface world.
Aquaman was thrown into an arena to fight a man-shark
while the king and her sister fought a war of
words. Aquaman got the upper hand, but the "conclave"
enhanced the beast's magical powers. Aquaman attempted
to telepathically stop it, but instead wiped away
the brain washing it had been under. Sreng attacked
his rulers. While they used their magic against
him, Aquaman escaped with the king's sister (the
woman with the steel arm). She, too, was after
an ancient artifact which had become missing from
her people. She took him to Maarzon, where they
were attacked by Savages.
As they fought, Orm appeared. |

Orm
had set himself up as the Maarzon's god. His people
demanded a sacrifice.
The Atlantean attack force encountered the Ocean
Master and realized he must have stolen their
seal. Orm decimated the entire army. Orm told
his brother how he'd come to such great powers
- he'd discovered an ancient Atlantean library.
He read about magic and twelve crystals. One by
one, Orm collected the crystals and became more
powerful with each. He was now in possession of
five. |

As
Aquaman felt sorry for himself, his brother captured
a sixth crystal. Nuada, Aquaman's fellow captive,
refused to use her magic to stop Orm, and explained
to him that his brother was playing him for a
fool. His emotions were helping the madman's scheme.
Aquaman broke down and gave into her. She told
him she would help him if he would turn his emotions
over to her. She placed him under a spell so that
he could attack the Ocean Master. He searched
deep down and realized he still loved his brother.
Once that revelation occurred to him, Orm exploded.
Nearby, they found the crystals and his helmet
/ mask. |

| Notes,
references to time, and chronology: |
|
Aquaman
related the story of his parents: His father, Tom Curry,
was a lighthouse attendant. He rescued a beautiful woman
from the raging sea during a storm. He was born a year later.
By age two, little Arthur was playing under water. On her
deathbed, his mother told them she had been exile from Atlantis,
and her son was destined to be the ruler of the seas. His
father remarried and had another son - Orm. Their father
showed obvious favoritism to Arthur due to his powers. Orm
plotted against his brother and found treasures which allowed
him to breathe under water. |
