Spawn left for Gotham in attempt to learn more about his past. Batman found Dare dead - inside a pentagram made with his own blood - killed by a man thought dead for six years, Simon Vesper - a min Al Simmons (Spawn) killed. The two met at the site of Vesper's new skyscraper, bombs soon went off and fires started working together to create a huge pentagram around Gotham. Graveyards emptied with their occupants reanimated. Vesper was possessed by a demon that only Spawn could defeat.
