Captain Gordon
returned home from work to find his apartment empty. Barbara had
left him divorce papers. He was called back in to a hostage
situation. Batman met him there and got Gordon's blessing to go in
first. A Dr. Hale Corbett was holding a wedding at gunpoint after
losing his wife and child in a car accident earlier that day.
Batman was able to handle the situation and hand it over to
Gordon. When James returned home, Batman was there to offer
condolences for his pending divorce. |

Gordon began to
question Batman's sanity after interrogating one of Mr. Freeze's
men and getting the third report of his new teenage sidekick.
Batman answered the signal and tried to explain his intentions. As
he left, Gordon got his first glimpse of Robin as he swooped away
with his partner. Later that night, Robin saved Gordon's life as
they took down Mr. Freeze. |

After the death of
Jason and the shooting of Barbara, Batman made an effort to get
back to his solitary roots and be seen less. Barbara tried to talk
to Bruce; he went to see her father. On the roof of Police
Headquarters, he admitted to the commissioner that he was scared
he'd create more monsters if he continued. He agreed to continue
on; each apologized to the other for their recent family
disasters. |

Jim realized a
change in Batman. He was more brutal and never came to the signal
anymore - if anyone did it was Robin (Tim). Gordon went to visit
Bane in hopes of shedding light on the rumors. After leaving, he
headed to a GCPD stakeout of a band of bank robbers holed up in an
abandoned building. "Batman" took them down hard and
Gordon got his first look at AzBat. |

Batman and Gordon
helped take down part of a Russian mob. Back at HQ, Gordon was
given a note from Dr. Corbett, a man he and Batman had taken down
a decade before. Corbett said in the note that he owed them. After
seeing the signal across the sky, Gordon and Batman met on the
rooftop. Corbett was there. He thanked them for helping him
straighten his life out and introduced them to his wife and
daughter. |
