Oracle had heard rumors that a plastic surgeon wanted to reconstruct his face in hopes of helping his mental rehabilitation. Robin confirmed that Joker was not in Arkham Asylum. Joker awakened in a torn straight jacket with three nurses as hostages. His mouth was on the back of his neck. Believing he was Batman and must solve the mystery, Joker interrogated some people, but ended up accidentally killing them. Batman caught up with Joker, who was still looking for the man (he believed his name was Nigel) who'd stolen his smile. Batman convinced Joker that he was Joker again (and not Batman) and that he should run. Batman followed him back to where he'd been living and took both Joker and Dr. Nigel Dalingsworth down. Dalingsworth had scores of other "patients" locked up that he was beautifying. Joker finished telling his story to Nigel in Arkham Asylum.
