Almost immediately, he witnessed a man fall down the stairs to his death. Though retired from police work, he began investigating the woman the man was with. Shortly thereafter, another man arrived looking for the woman (his wife) Gordon pursued. That man also ended up dead. A boy with a fixation on Batman recognized Gordon and tried to help. In his patch-work Batman costume, the killer got him, too. She fell from a cliff and was killed in the struggle.
