| Storyline |
A new
skyscraper was being erected in Gotham City. It promised to be the biggest
and was beginning to cast shadows as far as Arkham Asylum. As her light
was being cut out, Poison Ivy created a plant fungus that would make its
own light. She had a therapy session and again faked taking her pills.
Batman saved a suicidal jumper and dropped him off at the Asylum. Dr. Wood
gave him a tour. Later, Batman was called to the morgue, where three men
had died from a strange new disease. A botanist was needed for research.
Batman grabbed Ivy and put her on the job under his watchful eye.
Immediately she said it was murder - the poison was not natural. She cured
those who had been exposed to the toxin by kissing them; then escaped.
Bruce Wayne received a flower thanking him for his help on the new tower.
He immediately realized he'd been poisoned - only those who'd backed it
were becoming ill. Batman tracked down Ivy, who was attacking the new
building. She confessed to the poison, but said it only occurred when the
plant's stems were cut. She told him her doctor had sent the plants - he
was in love with her and wanted to help her get light back into her cell.
Batman kissed her and fell from the building. Her plants began to tear the
structure down. He was able to save himself, Ivy, and the owner from the
collapsing structure.
Batman took her back to the Asylum, where she was admitted along with Dr.
Wood. The next day, she was taken to her new cell - an "anonymous
benefactor" had donated money to the asylum in the stipulation that
she would get a greenhouse-like room for her plants. She knew Batman was
that benefactor. |
