One of Wayne
Enterprise's competitors hired Dr. Jonathan Crane to do a
motivational speech for them on fear. Bruce and Sasha attended
his lecture. Even though a troop of Arkham guards were there,
Scarecrow somehow got into costume and gassed the area; Bruce
also got into costume. He gave a rebreather to Sasha, and gave
his own to some civilians caught in an elevator. Batman was
affected by the gas. He took down Scarecrow and met Sasha. He
envisioned her telling him bad things had happened to Alfred,
Tim, Leslie, and Dick. When Bruce returned to his office, he
learned Lucious Fox had suffered a stroke.
+ Batman pursued Madame X. She dosed him
with her own brand of fear gas, but he fought through it. |

Bruce was denied bail at his arraignment due to flight risk.
Alfred returned to Wayne Manor for the first time since
Commissioner Gordon was shot. Barbara offered her services as an
attorney to Bruce - she'd taken correspondence courses in her
spare time and received a degree from Harvard. He refused and
told her he'd need her elsewhere.

+ Batman had Alfred bail out a local
pub, which was in trouble with tax problems. The place was a
hotspot he often frequented under various disguises in order to
get information. |

Nightwing was surprised when Robin entertained the idea that
Bruce might be guilty. Alfred felt the same at Leslie Thompkins.
Oracle convinced Nightwing to hear Robin out and be there for
him. They went out on patrol and Nightwing refused to believe he
might be guilty. He went to visit Alfred; Leslie visited Bruce
in jail.

Superman visited
Batman while he was taking down some mooks. He offered his
support even after Batman said he had no "identity" to
clear (Bruce Wayne). Alfred found a case file in the cave on
Bruce Wayne and began reading it.
+ Batman went in on a hostage situation.
The taker was a many-time loser and jumped through a window so
Batman wouldn't take him alive. Batman saved him anyway. |

The third Lucky
Hand Triad member was killed within a week. The murder weapon's
prints belonged to a man who'd been dead for nearly a month.
Robin found something on the security tapes he'd been given by
Nightwing - a boot's shadow and no wind. Batman investigated the
Lucky Hand murders, but found all the bodies in the morgue had
been taken - all of them. The mortician was somehow reanimating
the bodies.
+ Batman tried to help a man who was
contemplating suicide by jumping from a bridge. |

figure out how the mortician was doing what he was doing (by
infecting the bodies with parasites) and created an antitoxin.
He realized one of the zombies was the killer in the recent
Lucky Hand Triad murder. The mortician was taken down.
+ Batman was caught in a death trap by the
Riddler. The trap was created by Max Dodge, the man who'd taught
Bruce the art of escape. Dodge realized Batman was that boy and
helped him out. Riddler's men killed Dodge and got away as
Batman got free. |

to resuscitate the victim, but was bashed in the head by AzBat.
Nightwing stole a police car and chased him. St. Dumas ordered
him to take down the murderous Batman. AzBat went to the cave
and they began battle.

squealed - he'd paid a man $20million to perform a
"character assassination" on Bruce Wayne. The White
House ordered the "hit."

of a young girl who'd been hit by a train. He was able to
identify her and notify her family. |

Batman and Robin
took down Signal Man, Corrosive Man, and Kite Man on a jewel
heist. When Bruce returned home, Alfred was there waiting for
him with a house guest: Bane. Nightwing, Robin, and Batgirl were
called in by the butler. Bane requested information on the
remaining Lazarus Pits - he was out to destroy them all. Batman
and Bane visited Jason Blood. He helped the locate what was
thought to be the final pit. After they destroyed it, Bane
showed Batman a picture of Thomas Wayne with his mother.
+ When a statue in honor of Batman was
unveiled, Dr. Hugo Strange took offense. He threatened to blow
it up with Summer Gleason, a Gotham City reporter, tied to it.
Batman took him down and saved Gleason, but the monument was
destroyed. |

Bruce helped
finance an art showing of a tattoo artist for his girlfriend,
Kimmie Kariba. After the show, the artist refused a ride from
Kimmie and was attacked and raped on the streets. Bane worked
with Batman (staying in Wayne Manor) while their blood test was
pending. The tattoo artist activated one of her creations - a
tattoo of a sword became real and killed the person with the
body art. Huntress saw Batman and Bane working together and was
not impressed.
+ Alfred believed he was visited by
Jason's ghost. |
