| Storyline |
In 1961 Gotham City, Batgirl
and Robin were seen as a pair of juvenile delinquents who fought
corruption from behind masks. Commissioner Gordon, feeling pressured from
his higher-ups, assigned the task of taking them down to Detective Bruce
Wayne. While working on the case, Wayne met a pale woman with green hair,
Bianca Steeplechase - the Joker, who worked for a mobster. She tried to
buy him off, but he didn't take it. Barbara Gordon, estranged daughter of
the commissioner, readied for her night job with her partner, Dick
Grayson. They lived in what was once Wayne Manor; Bruce sold his family
home when his parents were murdered, leaving him penniless. Wayne planned
on taking down some of the corruption in the GCPD after closing the case
on Batgirl and Robin.
Batgirl and Robin barely escaped a run-in with the Joker (Bianca). Wayne
investigated Barbara Gordon, learning she found her mother murdered,
flunked out of school, and joined a circus (where she met Grayson). He
confronted her about being Batgirl. One of Wayne's informants, Selina Kyle
- a stripper, helped him take down three dirty cops. Dick visited the
circus where his family performed and watched them fall to their deaths.
Selina Kyle was found murdered.
An anonymous tip to check Bruce Wayne's apartment put enough suspicion on
him to be brought up on charges of murdering her. The evidence was planted
by Bianca Steeplechase, who engineered her murder and that of Grayson's
family. Batgirl planted some evidence of her own - one of her costumes in
Kyle's apartment. With the media thinking Batgirl was dead, Barbara began
making a name for herself on the society pages of the papers. Months
later, Batgirl and Robin resurfaced to take on the Joker with Bruce
Wayne's help. Joker killed Dick and got away. GCPD took down all the other
perpetrators while Batgirl and Wayne escaped with Grayson's body. Bruce
joined Barbara as Batman. |
