| Storyline |
Fifteen years after the
great war against the Beast, Riddler, last of the wise elders, summoned
Robin of the Haven. His girlfriend Dinah and his mother stayed behind.
Riddler warned the boy that evil was returning; Robin must unite the
people of the world to fight the Beast once more. When he returned home to
the Haven, he found it destroyed; everyone was dead. Robin set out to warn
the kingdoms of the world. On his way, he saw a man killed by Doomsday,
who guarded a pass. The man's daughter, Zatanna, and Robin were able to
get by. They decided to stick together and entered the mountain home of
the Hawkmen. Only two of their kind still had hope for the world, Katar
Hol and his wife, Shayera Tal. The couple believed the story of the rising
evil and set out for Amazonia to warn the warrior women there. Robin and
Zatanna encountered Green Arrow en route to the City of the Center. He
accompanied them even though he did not believe the Beast to be alive. As
they crossed the lake with Aquan, the boatman, they were attacked by the
creatures who'd destroyed the Haven. The same creatures also attacked
Amazonia, leaving Katar Hol dead. He and his wife had been the Amazonian's
captives, but Princess Diana needed no further convincing of the impending
war.
Green Arrow left Zatanna and Robin at the border of the City of the
Center. Zatanna's uncle Faust got Robin a meeting with the Three Men (Fast
Man, Wee Man, and Green Man). They scoffed at his story and banished him
from their land. Outside the city, Robin encountered a man who spoke of
The Brothers of the Night. Batman had lost his brother in the fight
against the Beast. Entering Gotham Crags, Robin asked a Jester where he
could find Batman. He found the ruler to be a madman. Jester released all
his prisoners, and Batman easily defeated them. Robin told Batman of the
war at the World's End. He then journeyed to Krypton, where he saw Luthor
Rex defeat and imprison their King Kal'El. Robin, too, was imprisoned.
Zatanna rescued them from their cells - she and her uncle had been able to
convince the Three Men of the war. Robin, remembering one of Riddler's
riddles, removed the green amulet from Kal'El's neck. He was freed of his
lifelong sickness and renewed. He defeated Luthor Rex and led their men to
the World's End. The Amazonians joined the battle; soon Batman did also.
Zatanna was able to free him of the tortured souls he bared. The united
armies defeated the Beast, though Batman died in combat. Robin and Zatanna
were married. |
