| Storyline |
In the
future, the battles of the second generation of superheroes threaten the
existence of human life. A preacher's (Norman McCay) dying friend passes
his ability to see the future on to him. A mysterious being (the Specre)
visits Norman and shows him superheroes of the past - Wonder Woman visited
the now retired Superman and showed him the devastation that was caused by
the defeat of Captain Atom. Magog killed Captain Atom, leaving a barren
wasteland of America's heartland. Superman, after a ten year absence,
returned to action. He, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkman,
Robin (Dick Grayson), and others reformed the Justice League. Superman
asked Bruce Wayne to join them. Lex Luthor brought a group together to
heighten tension between the humans and metahumans. Without Batman or
Aquaman, the League sought out Magog. He surrendered to the League.
Superman's team began to build a metahuman prison in the wastelands of
Kansas. Batman joined Luthor's team - they designed robobats to police and
bring order against the Justice League. After achieving his goal (finding
out the connection between Luthor and Captain Marvel), Wayne struck
against Luthor. Superman's prison failed, the metahumans escaped. The
Justice League abandoned the peaceful Superman to fight a final battle
against their former prisoners. Captain Marvel, still under the control of
Luthor's brainwashing, arrived at the Gulag - as does Superman, who's
request for help was once again turned down by Batman. As the battle raged
on, Batman's troops arrived to spare life. Wonder Woman turned against him
and flew him above the clouds, where they witnessed the U.N.'s answer to
their situation - 3 fighter jets armed with nuclear weapons coming right
for them. They were able to stop 2, but the other's nuke dropped. Captain
Marvel died crippling the bomb above ground. The surviving metahumans met
with the U.N. and declared their agenda. They would live with humans
peacefully. |
