advised against it by his secret service, President Abraham Lincoln went
to the theater, where he was shot and killed by a terrorist group known as
the Knights of the Golden Circle. Their leader, Professor Joe Carr, killed
himself as a martyr, professing that the South would rise again in 74
years. The Secret Society of Detectives set out to discover their plan.
Detectives 1-4 (4 being Theodore Roosevelt) spoke with Gregor Mendel,
who's work was the basis of the Knights' plot. The SSoD realized the
Knights planned to use botanic toxins to destroy a city.
Years later, a young boy watched as his parents were gunned down coming
out of a theater. The family's butler, Alfred, watched young Bruce off -
he would spend the next ten years in Europe and Asia at the world's best
private schools. After his decade abroad, Bruce returned home to find
Alfred had become a medical doctor. He soon realized that his family's
wealth had been depleted. Wayne was taken in by the Secret Society of
Detectives as #27; Alfred was #25. 25 and 27 began doing their digging on
the Knights of the Golden Circle - their 74 year old plan would come into
fruition later in the year (1939). The Cat-Burglar, calling herself
Catwoman, attacked at a function Bruce and Alfred were attending and held
one of Alfred's teachers, Dr. Hugo Strange, captive. Bruce and Alfred were
able to catch and detain the woman. Bruce followed Strange as Alfred took
care of the Catwoman. Strange led #27 into an ambush; a boy named Robin
and his group of friends helped the detective out of the jam. Strange
outed himself as the leader of the Knights. Wayne broke into Strange's
lab, only to be captured by the doctor and his associate, Professor
Jonathan Crane. 27 escaped and met up with Alfred in the cave below their
home. They believed the toxin would be spread at the baseball all-star
game, which was being held on Independence Day. With the help of Catowman
- Selina Kyle, Robin's gang, and Babe Ruth, the plot was stopped. Crane
and Strange escaped and headed to NYC and the World's Fair.
In New York, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt introduced Superman to
the crowd. 27 closed in on Strange and Crane. In a struggle, Strange fell
from a catwalk into a vat of chemicals. Before Wayne could get any answers
from Crane, a gunman shot him dead. The gunman, the real leader of the
Knights, was Thomas Wayne. He'd engineered the death of his wife and left
his son as the witness to his own death. 27 recovered the toxin from his
father, but Thomas fell to his death as well. |
