storyline When double-crossed, Kadaver put him back in the trance. After everyone realized who was in control, Penguin was again awakened. Kadaver became his partner. They busted up a big drug deal, scoring both the loot and the cash. Their next heist was a diamond show - Penguin double-crossed Kadaver again, and Batman was there to take them down.

Penguin's birds brought the city to its knees - radio stations went off the air, people were killed, an airliner even crashed. Out of control, the Batmobile went into the harbor. Batman escaped back to the cave with one of the birds to analyze.

storyline (occurring simultaneously with Batman 450) 
Batman and Gordon discovered a murder victim that appeared to be a part of some sort of ritual on the night of the Penguin's bird attacks. Batman found another victim in the same fashion and also heard of a strange "red-hooded gunman" loose in Gotham City. At the plane crash site (see Detective 615), Batman found an archaeologist who spoke of "dragon lines." Both ritual deaths had occurred on one of these lines. They were too late at the next location, and they thought the next would be at Wayne Manor. A deer was found dead there. Next on the line was the archeologist's home. Batman stopped the being by separating it from it's magical scepter. It fell into the harbor. Batman realized Joker was on the loose (Red-Hood).

Batman stopped a robbery at a fortune teller's shop. She asked him to pick a card, which turned out to be the tarot of the joker. She told him of its significance. He thought back on a battle with his nemesis three years previous. The fortune teller asked Batman to be careful.

storyline Tim got a post card from his parents, they were island-hopping in the Caribbean. Unknown to him, their plane was forced down and they were captured by a local tribe. Their pilot was killed immediately to show them they were serious. A man calling himself the Obeath Man held them. The news reached Gotham City; Tim was devastated.

storyline Gordon called Batman in - they'd received a video tape of the Drakes, both still captive. The tape demanded a ransom, and showed a tribe member slashing the throat of the Drake secretary. Bruce deduced from a smell on the tape and a huge centipede that they were being held in Haiti by a voodoo tribe.

storyline In a new comic book based on the Batman: The devil asked for peace between heaven and hell. God told him he must walk the earth in a willing human's body and fight evil. Satan found Simon Petrarch and merged with him. The devil took the shape of a Bat Man and began purging evil.
Alfred gave Bruce a copy of the book; a murder victim turned up in Gotham. "Batman" was signed in the victim's blood. The killer called in to a talk radio show.
