Batman and Robin searched out the Joker's location. By the time they'd caught up, the Joker turned Catwoman against her lover. Batman and Robin caught the Joker, but Selina got away with the reprogramming still intact.

storyline Batman and Robin investigated a series of sports accidents. Robin went in against the Scarecrow alone while on a stakeout. The former Professor Crane captured the Boy Wonder. Batman, after getting a taste of Fear Gas, went out to save his partner. He worked through the fear, captured Scarecrow, and saved Robin.

storyline A man came to Gotham from London to hire Slam Bradly to find his kidnapped fiancee. The gang that took her broke in and captured him as well. Bradly gave chase, but not even intervention from Batman and Robin stopped the kidnappers. Bradly tracked down a friend of the first victim, from her he learned that his client's real name was Moriarty, hers was Watson. Elongated Man got into 221B Baker Street in London - goons were after an unpublished Sherlock Holmes manuscript. Batman and Robin joined Elongated Man and Slam Bradly in London. They uncovered a plot against the royal family and took action - in the palace, Batman was unexpectedly assisted by a still very much alive Sherlock Holmes. The master detective explained to the group how he'd survived all the years.

storyline Jervis Tetch was released from prison; the Mad Hatter was quick to make his return to crime. He escaped from Batman and Robin and continued his rampage. Bruce Wayne "threw his hat in" the race for city councilman in order to lure the Hatter out. The ploy worked, but Robin ended up shot and the Hatter escaped.

storyline Batman got Robin to Dr. Leslie Thompkins. As his partner was in surgery, Batman thought back on his beginnings. Leslie interrupted him and verbally abused him for putting Jason in danger. He explained his college years to his surrogate mother; Jason made it through.

storyline As newly appointed Commissioner Gordon gave an interview about his relationship with the Batman, the vigilante took down some thieves. Dr. Thompkins. introduced Bruce to her friend Rachel Caspian. Bruce was immediately attracted to her, only to learn that Rachel was about to take vows to join a convent. Rachel's father, Judson Caspian returned to Gotham to see his daughter through. Caspian's alter-ego, the Reaper, also returned to town. The Reaper's form of vigilantism left dead bodies. Batman's first encounter with him almost killed the Dark Knight. Bruce took out the gun that killed his parents (he'd had it since shortly after his parents' deaths) and began practicing with it.

storyline Bruce met Rachel for lunch. Batman met with Gordon about the Reaper. He made a truce with a mob boss to work with them to take down the Reaper. He was assigned a partner, Joe Chill, and he believed Chill was his parents' murderer.

storyline Batman and Chill planted a seed in the underworld trying to draw out the Reaper. Bruce convinced Rachel to stay her decision about becoming a nun. Batman and Chill went up against the Reaper, but he again escaped.

storyline Bruce proposed to Rachel. In a major showdown between the Reaper, the mob, Batman, and the GCPD, the Reaper was believed killed. Batman took Chill to the place where his parents died, but before he could kill the shooter, the Reaper did. In a final battle, the Reaper fell from a high-rise construction site and died. Bruce, after seeing the Reaper's face, went to console Rachel. She left him for the convent in attempt to atone for her father's sins.

storyline Batman and Robin broke up an attempted blood heist. They believed that the Crime Doctor was back in operation. While Jason was getting a checkup from his recent gunshot wound, Bruce took the liberty of checking out some files on Dr. Thompkins' computer. After deducing the Crime Doctor's facility, he and Robin infiltrated and put them out of business.

storyline After escaping Arkham, Two-Face was reported striking again. Batman realized after an encounter with him that it was an imposter. He looked into finding Paul Sloane (who'd portrayed Harvey Dent in a film, and was scarred much like Dent in a production accident) - he was reported missing. At their planned setup, both Sloan and Dent showed up. Sloan got the better deal, leaving Batman, Robin, and Dent locked up with a bomb set for 2 minutes.
