A man named Bradberry escaped and got himself killed by lightning climbing onto an antenna atop the facility. Another, Kryppen, claimed to have been visited by a demon. He instigated a riot. The guards soon got it under control. Kryppen poisoned the nightly meal and called for Batman. He offered the vigilante the antidote if he would only kill one of the patients. Batman refused and gave the man some of the toxin - he was forced to bring forth the antidote.
