Poison Ivy struck at the dinner. She carted off all the males (including a faking Wayne). When Batman was necessary, he appeared and took down Ivy. He broke up a mob meeting and ordered one of the Dons to report to him. Gordon confronted Batman on his methods and realized he was a different man. The Dons got together and hired a former government agent-turned hitman named Mekros to take out Batman.

Issue Batman 502 Subtitle Phoenix in Chaos (part of Knightquest the Crusade) Date December 1993 Writer(s) Doug Moench Artist(s) Mike Manley, Joe Rubinstein storyline Az-Bat and Mekros both survived their first meeting. The assassin was tailed by the new Batman. Az-Bat learned that the government had hired another assassin to take down Mekros. He took down both hitmen.
