Oracle and Batman
showed the new Batgirl around. Barbara had some reservations
about training her so soon - she'd been raised and trained by
David Cain, a master assassin, she'd never spoken (never taught
to speak), and she was only 17 years old. Batman had no problems
with her and gave her his complete blessing. |

and patched up the bleeding Batman. After testing the film,
Batman realized it was legit. Batgirl, through a psychic,
learned English, but she still couldn't speak - only understand.

Batgirl she wasn't ready yet to get back into the fray after
giving her some training tapes. He left town for a few days, so
Batgirl went out anyway (sans the costume). Oracle confronted
her about it and asked her not to go out until Batman said she
was ready. While out, Batgirl found and tracked Lady Shiva. |

Lady Shiva spared
Batgirl's life. When she awakened in an ambulance, she realized
that she'd suffered broken ribs and a broken arm. She easily
escaped and met up with Shiva again. Shiva knew who she was and
who her mentor (Batman) was. Batgirl got a cheap shot in and
knocked Shiva out. |

Shiva for help. Batman talked to Cain about Batgirl and her
training. He also watched some more film of her fighting, then
proceeded to give Cain a massive beating. Shiva offered to give
Batgirl back what she was missing only if she would grant her a
death match in one year. Batgirl accepted and regained the
mantle of the bat. |
