Oracle warned
Azrael of a freak coming his way- he was masquerading as a dead
baseball player killing men with a bat. Azrael declined, but
took the case after she told him he might be a metahuman. Azrael
defeated the man and gloated at beating a meta. |

| storyline |
An ex-Navy Seal
with a beef against the US government stole a helicopter after
shooting up two police stations. Azrael found him but two cops
intervened and the man, calling himself the Spartan, escaped. On
of the cops attempted to shoot the helicopter down with a rocket
launcher. He missed and hit a rock-climbing range. The Spartan
stopped to help an injured lady; they were both saved by Azrael.
Afterwards, the Spartan agreed to let Azrael take him in. |

The cop holding
the Spartan planned to set up an "escape" so he could
kill him. After killing two other officers who tried to stop
him, the man opened the Spartan's cell. Azrael burst in and

The Spartan
accompanied Jean Paul to a gym, where the usually docile young
man cleared 600lbs with one hand. He left the Spartan with Lilhy
while he visited Oracle. They went to Dr. Thompkins for a check
up. She realized his metabolism was crazy and ordered more
tests. Lilhy agreed to get the Spartan out of the country for
him. In return, she sent him to pick up a man with a metagene. |

The man and his
huge brother (both metahumans) took Jean Paul down. Dr. Tompkins
told Barbara she got his test results back - he was in bad shape
and should be dead. Oracle contacted Nightwing, who learned Jean
Paul's whereabouts from Lilhy. The brothers had pushed his car
into a river with him in it. Nightwing arrived and they attacked
him. |

Jean Paul
delivered the two men to Lilhy. After speaking with Oracle,
Nightwing went to look for the AWOL Azrael. He found him at
Lilhy's and took him to Dr. Thompkins. Jean Paul was angered at
her diagnosis and stormed away. He went to Wayne Manor, and the
cave below. Inside, he got into his old AzBat costume, stole a
motorcycle, knocked Alfred around, and left. He took down a man
holding up a gas station and claimed to be the "real
Batman."

explosives from a construction site and disappeared. St. Dumas
ordered him to place the explosives in his home - the murderer
had given it to him. Jean Paul awakened confused to be in the
old costume. Batman arrived; they fought until the explosions
started. |

heralded him as a hero and savior. He returned home and was
attacked by Biis. |
