The Question Quarterly (issues 1-5)

The Question Quarterly #1

Cover Date: Autumn 1990
Subtitle: Any Man's Death
Writer(s): Dennis O'Neil
Artists(s): Denys Cowan
Storyline: Vic found himself caught in a storm. By the time it was over, his camp was ruined. Only one boy had survived the attack. He followed a trail hoping to find the people that took Jackie.
He got to a nearby drug camp and set off an alarm. Goons captured him and took them in to their leader. The man told him he would set the girl free if he would kill a rival for him. He brought Jackie out to show he had her and told Vic he was not in the slaver business. Vic gave Jackie her medicine and told her he'd be back shortly to pick her up.
Terry, the man Vic was now working for, gave him directions to his destination. He told them Lent was approaching, so there would be a massive street party to give him cover.
In the city, he found a clothing shop and bought clothes that reminded him of the Question. He found a blank mask as well. He grabbed an empty bottle and "drunkenly" wandered into the home where his mark would be. Terry's sister (actually Terry in drag) stood up and asked him to kill "her." Two bodyguards jumped in and foiled the plot. Vic jumped atop Terry's vehicle and rode back to the original camp. There, he freed Jackie.
Terry then pulled a gun on them. Vic was forced to fire on him. Terry fell into the raging river (another storm had popped up) and was swept away.

The Question Quarterly #2

Cover Date: Summer 1991
Subtitle: Gomorrah Homecoming
Writer(s): Dennis O'Neil
Artists(s): Denys Cowan
Storyline: Vic got the bad news he didn't want to hear - Jackie didn't have much time left to live. He was attacked by thugs he beat up on previously when he left the witchdoctor. A man calling himself Marco helped him. Vic got cut on his arm, Marco helped him patch it up. He wanted Vic in good shape for their fight - he was the best fighter around and wanted to test himself against Sage.
Marco's brother let them "borrow" his truck. The drove it as far as they could and hopped a train to Hub City. Vic was determined to get Jackie back to her mother.
In Hub City, Myra was attacked and almost raped in her home. She took the assailant's gun and began carrying it. A doctor came to her home the next day - he'd been run out of the hospital by vandals who were stealing the medications.
Vic, Jackie, and Marco arrived. The doctor sent them into the hospital to secure some medication. When they returned, Jackie had died. Vic prepared to give Marco his promised fight.

The Question Quarterly #3

Cover Date: Autumn 1991
Subtitle: Hell in Hub City
Writer(s): Dennis O'Neil
Artists(s): Joe Quesada, Bruce N. Solotoff, Mickey Ritter
Storyline: Word got around that a big time action movie was filming in Hub City. The mayor hoped a few days would bring more commerce into town and help out.
A local biker gang was hired by the crew as extras and a fight broke out. Vic and Marco stopped the fight, but the movie people made Izzy arrest Vic. While he was in jail, Cathy Fergosi, the man who'd trapped Myra and her daughter in a building, arrived at the set. Myra went in and told Vic. She had Marco bring him his clothes.
The Question went into action (while the cameras were running). He took down everyone but Fergosi, who ran when he saw Rudy (the film star Randy McDainger) believing he was the man he played in the movies.
When they got back to Hollywood, they put the start in a coat and hat like the Question and had him beat up a Fergosi look-a-like for the finale of their film.

The Question Quarterly #4

Cover Date: Winter 1991
Subtitle: Waiting for Phil
Writer(s): Adam Blaustein
Artists(s): Denys Cowan, Mike Manley
Storyline: Vic got a job working on the "Lorenzo Show." The star was a man he went to journalism school with. The current gag running was Hub City's "mole men" - people living in the sewers. One of his underlings hired a man to grab a woman so he could grab her child. The blame would be placed on the mole men.
The man was crazy and killed the woman. The man who hired him felt guilty and took the kid. Vic saw the man running away, but had no idea he'd been involved in a crime.
Lorenzo talked with one of his people, a minority coalition head. He agreed to help - if Lorenzo went down, his publicity would, too. Vic was put on the case of the missing girl by both Lorenzo and Myra. He found people living in the sewers, but no one who was "inhuman."
At the morgue, he found the man who'd done the killing. He was wearing a watch just like the one Lorenzo gave him when he started work. The police pulled one of his prints from the watch. The Question tracked and found the man who'd kidnapped the girl, but did not find the girl.

The Question Quarterly #5

Cover Date: Spring 1992
Subtitle: Outrage
Writer(s): Denny O'Neil
Artists(s): Joe Quesada, Denys Cowan, Shea Anton Pensa, Kelley Puckett, Jan Harpes, Mark Badger, Mike Gold, Mike Mignola, Mike Baron, Mike Manley
Storyline: Izzy picked up Myra. She told him the Question had knocked her out. He helped her home and told her he'd check in on her later. He spoke with Marco, who talked about what might have caused him to punch her; Izzy then told him what he thought had happened. Later, some dopers got into it and exchanged stories on what they knew.
Izzy went back to see Myra. She told him the real story - a business man (drug lord) had come to her offering her $50,000 per month and $1.5 million for the city if she would turn a blind eye to his operations on their waterfront. She thought about it and drew up the papers. The Question had knocked some sense into her and stolen the paperwork.
