Storyline: Jimmy Olsen arrived on a murder scene - the victim was a paraplegic named Willie Walker, the Black Racer. His heart had been ripped out like Lightray and Sleez.
Metron realized there was a disturbance in the cosmos. He had a recurring dream of a globe splitting in two. After talking with Darkseid, he realized Apokolips' ruler knew something he didn't.
Big Barda and her husband, Mr. Miracle, took down some electronics thieves while on their way to get groceries.
Darkseid found one of Dr. Bedlam's Animates destroyed - it had a hole in it's chest. Dr. Bedlam could not be found. Orion and Takion found Magnar dead. His heart was also removed.
After checking his messages, Scott Free found his wife, Barda, dead in their home.


The Death of the New Gods #2 [26]

Storyline: Orion immediately fingered his father as the New Gods killer. The Justice League investigated Barda's death, but found nothing concrete. Mr. Miracle and Superman took her body back to New Genesis.
Darkseid tasked Desaad with finding what killed his concubine, Justeen. He found that her soul had been removed. The same conclusion Metron had come to in his investigations.
Darkseid pondered anti-life while a service was held for Big Barda. Superman learned that Orion and Mr. Miracle both held pieces of the anti-life equation. Miracle procured a powerful gun. He, Orion, and Superman journeyed to Apokolips.
Himon and Takion visited the source wall and found a new piece was growing beneath it with the recent New Gods who'd been killed.


The Death of the New Gods #3 [22]

Subtitle: Armageddon Tarantella

Storyline: Superman, Mr. Miracle, and Orion blasted through parademons and made it to Apokolips. Kanto and Granny Goodness stepped aside and let them in to see Darkseid. Superman stayed behind to battle shadow demons.
Takion and Himon visited the Source wall. Takion was attacked.
Mr. Miracle used his piece of the anti-life equation to get answers from Darkseid - he was not behind the deaths, but none could overcome who was.
Back on New Genesis, Himon was made leader after the death of Takion.
Darkseid absolved Desaad's service to him after one last task - he needed information on project Soul Fire.
Mantis awakened to find all his guards dead. Metron witnessed Takion's death.


The Death of the New Gods #4 [18]

Storyline: Superman, Orion, and Mr. Miracle arrived at the home of the Forever People. They were all dead and had been for quite a while. Scott used the anti-life equation to speak with their dead bodies, but they would / could not reveal their murderer. Superman and Orion suspected Infinity Man due to clues left by Big Bear. Himon suspected Orion due to the use of the Astro Force.
Mantis and Kalibak plotted to kill Mr. Miracle.
Metron traveled back to the dawn of man to find what had given extra powers to the god killer.
Darkseid got the soul fire file from Desaad and relieved his servant of his duty to him.
A disruption was felt on New Genesis.


The Death of the New Gods #5 [13]

Storyline: Superman battled Mantis and Kalibak. He got Scott safely to Himon. Orion joined the fight. After an explosion, Orion was gone; Kalibak and Mantis were dead. Scott gave over to the anti-life equation and went after Orion.
Metron conversed with the Source. It told him how it had been split during the time of the Old Gods. It was now attempting to reconvene with its other half.


The Death of the New Gods #6 [10]

Subtitle: Sacrifice

Storyline: The Source and Metron moved into position to witness another death. Superman and Mr. Miracle approached Orion. Miracle hit him with anti-life, causing him to tell only the truth. Orion was not the killer. Scott broke down; Superman took him away so that Orion could continue as bait for the god-killer. Orion saw his foe in the distance and raced toward him. A huge explosion ensued and only his helmet was left.
Superman and Mr. Miracle found the addition to the Source Wall and Himon waiting for them.


The Death of the New Gods #7 [06]

Subtitle: Seraphic Reunification

Storyline: Superman blasted Himon to reveal the Infinity Man. The two fought until Infinity placed Superman in a construct of light that he could not escape. Miracle fought him to no avail - Infinity was the will of the Source. A huge explosion destroyed the source wall. Infinity Man was seemingly destroyed; the Source merged with its darker half to once again become complete. Superman was knocked unconscious before the Source took Mr. Miracle and Metron. It then went after Darkseid.


The Death of the New Gods #8 [01]

Subtitle: The End

Storyline: Superman woke up to find a huge explosion and dead troops all across Apokolips. The Source and Darkseid continued their fight until Darkseid somehow gained the power of the souls of his lost New Gods. Superman, not wanting Darkseid to win, flew through his adversary, but it harmed him not. The Source called upon the soul of Orion, who did battle with Darkseid. The Source then crashed New Genesis and Apokolips together, merging them into a single planet.
Superman was sent home.
