Storyline:
issue 1:
Courtney Whitmire, her mother, and her new stepfather moved into their new home in Blue Valley. While unpacking after her first day of school, Courtney learned her stepfather, Pat Dugan, used to be a superhero named Stripesy. She found the Star Spangled Kid's costume and modified it for herself. Pat was going to chaperone her school's costume dance and she was going to get back at him.
Missing kids dressed in lizard outfits attacked. Pat hopped in a robot suit and helped Courtney fight them.
issue 2:
The next day, Pat called and spoke with Ted Knight about Courtney being the new Star-Spangled Kid. At detention, she learned her art teacher was as supervillain calling himself Paintball.
With STRIPE on his way, the Kid was knocked out.
issue 3:
Paintball disappeared. Elsewhere, a giant mosquito was loosed on the town. Stars and STRIPE went after it, but it, too, escaped.
issue 4:
Solomon Grundy awakened in Blue Valley. Stars and STRIPE teamed up with the Marvel Family (they were in town watching Fawcett City play basketball) to do battle. Dr. Occult appeared and requested their help. He vanquished Grundy and the zombies that had popped up.
issue 5:
Young Justice arrived in Blue Valley to scout the new Star-Spangled Kid. The boys posed as students while the girls checked the outlying areas.
When a group of substitute teachers went to a meeting, the kids followed. The "teachers" were actually Laroonians. SSK and Young Justice moved in on them and were hit with a beam that turned them into aliens.
issue 6:
With help from Courtney's friend, Mary, STRIPE got the alien gun to reverse its effects. Not only were the humans looking like Laroonians, they were beginning to act like them. With everyone back to normal, the Laroonians blasted off. Their ship was destroyed by a beam from Earth.
Cindy, a girl from Courtney's school, introduced herself as Shiv.
issue 7:
Shiv attacked during a football game. The Kid fought her into the school's pool, where she was defeated. Her father's minions grabbed her and took the failure away.
issue 8:
While Pat worked with the original Robotman (now in the human body of Charles Grayson), Nebula Man attacked Blue Valley looking for the Star-Spangled Kid's cosmic converter belt. When Pat found out, he called in all the heavy hitters - the JSA, JLA, Teen Titans, Young Justice, etc.
They all appeared in time to see SSK destroy the Nebula Man using her belt and a downed power line.
Courtney's mom began working for her school; Pat's son left military school to come home.

notes

  • Courtney mentioned working with the Justice Society as early as issue 4.
