Storyline: Deadman was visiting Max Loomis when a bearded lady showed up at his PI office. She told him about the death of an old friend. Loomis and Brand investigated. After the funeral, they came back to the grave site to find someone digging it up.
Money was recovered. One of the grave-robbers double-crossed the other and buried him in the grave as well. Deadman began to haunt the man. In his body, he opened another package that was recovered - a bomb exploded.

Storyline: Max survived the blast and sent Deadman to follow Serna, the man who the two dead brothers were to report to. Serna turned out to be a former resident of Nanda Parbat. Deadman followed him to northern Africa, where he met with several other Nanda Parbat refugees. They planned to distribute a new fear inducing drug through cocaine in the United States.

Storyline: Deadman tracked the drug-laced drugs. He and Loomis took down a couple of lower-level dealers and moved up the chain.
Duroc's plant was compromised, many were killed (including Duroc) when the drug was used on its manufacturers. One of his men, a double agent, got the ledger of Nanda Parbat refugees to the Sensei.

Subtitle: Hidden Depths

Storyline: Deadman learned of a deal for a nuclear submarine. He checked it out to find that one of the dealers had been double crossed and it was to be used to help liberate an Eastern European country. He intervened after finding the terrorists had killed the crew. When he was done, all the terrorists had been killed.

Subtitle: Death and the Maiden

Storyline: Deadman found himself in the middle of an investigation of a serial killer who would leave sticky notes with messages at the scenes of his crimes. He followed the lead investigator and found one of the victims was still hanging around as a ghost.
Deadman began spending time with the former young woman while he wasn't investigating. She realized he could take his mask off.

Subtitle: Love and Death

Storyline: Deadman began investigating the other murders. He believed that if one of the killer's victims was sticking around, others might. He was wrong. He confided in Irene (the second victim) that her old boyfriend was a media hound and was trying to get front page notoriety. He soon realized more - he was fabricating the whole serial killer thing to make himself look like a hero.
Deadman began following him closer and he found the man had a shrine to his ex-girlfriend and he'd killed her to keep anyone else from having her. When he was brought to justice, Irene faded away from Deadman's arms.

Subtitle: The Children of Paradise

Storyline: Deadman helped round up the rest of the real killers from the fake serial killer fiasco before getting back in touch with Max Loomis. Max sent him to the monastery at Keh Tan to see Liang, an old friend who was taking care of the children of Nanda Parbat.
While there, one of the children was kidnapped by his mother, Onyx. Max and Deadman tried to help the boy, but he turned them in to his mother.

Subtitle: Spirits in the Ethereal World

Storyline: Max was placed in a cell. Deadman learned that Zi, Onyx's son, could leave his own body and possess others. He was the son of Jonah, the original "Deadman." Onyx used him to expedite her "exporting" business and sent a load of arms to the Sensei. Deadman made a move to spring Max, but Zi possessed the detective.


Issue #9

Subtitle: The Enemy of my Enemy

Storyline: Deadman was brought before the Sensei and captured in the ectoplasm ray. Max momentarily escaped and tried to free Boston, but was recaptured. The Sensei, holding Zi's mother, had him kidnap a diplomat in hopes of starting a war between Taiwan and China. He ordered Deadman to be destroyed.
Zi began a revolt against Sensei, but it turned out he was hopping between bodies while Deadman used his. Zi was injured in the battle; Onyx and Sensei were left for dead. Deadman freed Max and got the diplomat to his peace meeting.
