storyline Through doctored sound waves, Scarecrow broadcast a signal that would render the listener completely illiterate. Gotham was filled with chaos, as the city  began scrounging up the ransom. Batman and Robin (who became afflicted) got on Scarecrow's trail.

storyline Bruce Wayne was caught with a dead body and arrested for murder. While there, Dick found the real killer (with help from Batman, who'd escaped). The killer confessed and Bruce (who broke back into jail) was set free.

storyline A new criminal, the "invisible man" (due to him disappearing after the crime), was busy ripping off banks. Batman went after him, but was defeated by one punch. He put a tracer on him the next time and found out it was Clayface. Using a sonic weapon, Batman defeated him.

storyline Batman tracked down the diary of a criminal head. Harvey Dent prosecuted him, and implicated most everyone in that was in the crime family.

storyline The day after Batman took down Mastermind, Riddler was released from prison. He put out a riddle that Batman couldn't figure out. While Batman was taking down Perfesser, Nygma got taken down attempting to steal the same thing.

storyline Dr. Kirk Langstrom (ManBat) was framed by one of his rivals that had stolen the ManBat formula. Langstrom was kidnapped and rescued by Batman who'd figured out what was going on.

storyline Barbara Gordon attends a costume party as a female Batman (Batgirl). Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn are there to kidnap the host. Barbara was attacked by the pair when she went looking for her friend. She almost made it out with her, but all four were captured by Catwoman's men. Ivy helped Batgirl escape, and she thwarted Catwoman.

storyline Talia showed up in Gotham. Batman found her and went with her to Paris. They hoped to find a man who stole a statue from Talia's father, Ra's al Ghul. Once there, they tracked the man, retrieved the statue (and film inside), and parted ways.

storyline While Bruce was out of town, Dick filled in as official Gotham vigilante. Ventriloquist and Scarface escaped Arkham and held up a bank. Robin broke in and rescued the hostages and captured Ventriloquist. Scarface blew up in an explosion.

storyline An undercover cop was captured by Thorne's gang. Gordon went in after him and was also caught. Batman got them free, and the police took care of the rest.
