Dr.
Sivana hit Sydney, Australia with his Luddite missile.
It caused all technology to become useless, and everyone
near the blast suffered from amnesia.
The Outsiders tracked him down to a remote island and
landed the Pequod nearby. Sivana, piloting a giant robot,
soon found them. Thunder and Grace began tearing it
apart, then the rest of the team moved in. Sivana hit
Nightwing with a toxic dart. |

The
Outsiders attacked Sivana and Saber; Sivana then hit
Katana with a toxic dart. He restated that he merely
wanted to have a conversation with them and would gladly
disburse antidote. The Outsiders gave in and were taken
inside his lair.
Sivana gave them the backstory on his plot: he'd infected
Grodd's race with a plague to blackmail them into invading
New York. Joker kidnapped President Luthor in order
to regain some stolen tech. Sivana had been watching
and manipulating the Outsiders since they formed on
that occasion. Deathstroke had posed as Batman to give
the Outsiders his intel on bad guys who were in his
way. He was going to use the Luddite to knock the planet
back into the stone age - then "save" it.
Sivana wanted the Outsiders to join him as his enforcers.
Afterwards, he hit Katana and Nightwing with the antidote
to his nerve toxin. Katana released the demon Sabbac
from her sword. As he sprayed hellfire throughout the
lab, Saber scooped up Sivana and flew away. The Outsiders
had won, but Sivana escaped with enough Luddite to synthesize
more. |

As
they flew back to America, Nightwing thought back on
the situation a year previous that got them where they
were:
Arsenal led the team against the Dominators. After taking
down the sleeper cell, Grace and Arsenal had it out.
Shift told Arsenal (again) that they needed more team
members - Starfire had quit, Freddie Marvel was away,
and Jade was dead.
Anissa went to Grace for companionship - her father,
Black Lightning, was in jail for murder.
Nightwing met Red Hood in Gotham City. After a quick
fight, Red Hood told him Jefferson Pierce was innocent. |

One
year ago:
Roy returned home and spent some time with his daughter.
Three years ago:
Secretary of Education Jefferson Pierce hit Martin Somers
with lightning, killing him. Somers had been responsible
for the death of Pierce's niece, Joanna. Oliver Queen,
who'd been working with Joanna, talked Jefferson out
of turning himself in.
After feeling the weight of why Superman of Earth-2
had created the Crisis, Pierce turned himself over to
Checkmate for the murder of Somers. Knowing they could
not incarcerate him as Jefferson Pierce or as Black
Lightning, Alan Scott created a new identity for him.
Red Hood told Nightwing that Deathstroke had been trailing
Somers. He hit him with a toxin as Pierce struck him
with lightning. Todd had overheard Deathstroke talking
about it while doing surveillance.
Dick and Anissa visited Jefferson in prison. Pierce
didn't buy into the story. Anissa went to Grace - she
wanted to break her father out of prison. |

One
year ago:
Thunder tried to get the Outsiders on the same page
with her and Grace, but the team did not want to play
a part in breaking into and out of Iron Heights Prison.
Owen Mercer - Captain Boomerang, Jr. was given a new
cellmate in Iron Heights - Derek Cooper. Another inmate
told him a contract was out on Cooper, who was actually
Black Lightning.
Arsenal contacted Anissa (who was in bed with Grace)
- her father's cover had been blown and they were going
in to get him. |

One
year ago:
Grace and Thunder were disguised as prisoner transports
into Iron Heights.
"Cooper" asked Mercer if he was there to kill
him. Mercer told him that Checkmate had a leak.
Grace and Thunder were told to stall - when the transporters
tried to dampen them, the magnetism hit Grace and backfired.
All the dampeners nearby were disabled. The low-level
metas got their powers back. Warden Wolfe called for
a full lockdown and gave shoot to kill orders. Nightwing
improvised a new plan.
Black Lightning and Kid Boomerang teamed up against
the other E-Block inmates. Grace and Thunder went in
to get her father. He insisted that Mercer come with
them. The warden had some sort of power that caused
others' muscles to constrict. Shift was the only one
nearby who wasn't affected. He was able to put a bubble
around the team before Wolfe's next strike, which killed
dozens (including his own men).
Nightwing got everyone out and their jet blasted off.
Iron Heights shot a missile at it and blew it out of
the sky. Shift saved everyone again by putting a bubble
around them.
Four of the Outsiders were identified by security cameras
and implicated in the double escape (Pierce and Mercer).
Nightwing and Arsenal were not identified. Over 40 inmates
and guards were dead and the Outsiders were thought
dead.
Roy quit the team and went to the media, confirming
the deaths of the Outsiders, who'd gone in to save a
prisoner who was in mortal danger.
Shift blamed himself for Wolfe's actions and re-merged
with Rex Mason. Rex, who gained all of Shift's memories
and feelings, joined the team - as did Owen Mercer. |
|
| Notes,
references to time, and chronology: |
|
Sivana
referred to Nightwing as "the boy wonder" in issue
43 showing knowledge that he was once Robin. |
| |
Issues
44 - A1 are told as a flashback to "one year ago."
It takes place after the Rann - Thanagar War, as Shift mentions
the Dominators not being a part of it. |
| |
During
the "one year ago" of issue 45, there is a "three
years ago" which details Jefferson Pierce as a member of
Luthor's cabinet. Not sure if the "three years ago"
fits inside the "one year ago" (making it four years
ago), or if it's simply "three years ago" from current. |
