J'onn,
posing as DEO agent William Dyer, met a Mr. Ferguson
in Arizona. He revealed himself and looked at an amulet
the man had. It was a Kuru Pendant - a medallion like
those given to Martians at their coming of age ceremony.
He fought with himself over his purpose - Martian
Manhunter won out over J'onn. He now believed there
was another Martian on Earth.
Note: there are
several other short stories in this book. |

As
Martian Manhunter telepathically tracked the second
Martian, so did a military group. The man who ran the
lab where the Martian escaped from was killed for his
negligence. MM was shot by a tracker robot as they neared
the Martian. J'onn then realized the whole thing had
been a trap - when he entered the room where he felt
the Martian, someone spoke to him through a phone. They
were the one's who'd been holding the Martian, and they
asked him to join them. When he refused, he was hit
with a psionic pulse. As he fell from the building,
he came to the conclusion that the Martian's captors
had been able to synthesize their power.
He soon found the other - he'd been able to remove
the tracking device. He said his name was Roh Kar.
J'onn promised him he had nothing to worry about as
he was shot from behind. As Roh Kar died, he told
J'onn that there were others like them. He killed
the Martian's killer. |

Believing
the Martian Manhunter now telepathically had their
location, the outfit which had the other captive Martian
began evacuating the facility and dumping data.
J'onn was already inside. He found several other Martians
in suspended animation. Other Martians appeared to
be in control of them. They questioned him about Roh'kar
and how he'd been there (on Earth) for "many years."
He convinced them they needed to leave the installation.
When the soldiers arrived, J'onn was able to cloak
himself and the other five Martians. He could not,
however, stop them from entering the soldiers' minds
and forcing them to kill each other.
Six weeks previous, the medallion had crashed into the
Sonoran Desert. A scientist found it and could not trace
it to any known element on Earth. Some time later, a
woman claiming to be from NASA came snooping, but the
man did not tell her about it. Once J'onn had secured
it, he erased the man's memory of him and put him on
a plane to London. It exploded during flight. |

J'onn
got the others to safety, but warned them he would
only protect them if they let him and trusted him.
There would be no more killing.
J'onn learned that Alex Ferguson (the man who'd found
the medallion) did not board the plane which was destroyed.
The agency who'd had the Martians believed him to
be dead, but sought out Dyer (J'onn), who they knew
had spoken with him. Ferguson believed Dyer set him
up. He made a recording for his girlfriend, Sara.
On it, he told her about the medallion and Dyer. The
agency found Ferguson when he entered Dyer's office.
J'onn learned that the youngest of the Martians had
known his daughter. They'd been off planet when the
plague hit Mars.
The agency killed Ferguson while J'onn tried to protect
him. He survived the napalm blast. He brought Superman,
Batman, and Wonder Woman to the facility where the
Martians had been held.
Homeland Security brought in Black Canary, Zatanna,
Green Arrow, Vixen, and Green Lantern in hopes of stopping
the Martian Manhunter. They were told that he was an
enemy of the state after freeing several high-powered
captives. |

The
agency tested a weapon that would burn its victim
alive from the inside. Alex's girlfriend found out
he was dead. They said he'd set off a bomb in a building
and took out three entire floors. She received the
package he'd sent. The tape told her not to go back
to her apartment.
J'onn continued to teach his new friends how to use
human thought to change form and fit in better.
Sara called Dyer Investigations and got in touch with
J'onn. She told him he'd killed her boyfriend and
she was going to the news with the tape. He grabbed
her up before the agency could and took her into hiding.
The agency tracked them and helicopters fired on their
building. One of the Martians was killed, the others
flew away with the tape and Sara (Alex's girlfriend).

J'onn
took his fellow Martians (and Sara) to an abandoned
housing development. J'onn headed back to reclaim
the body of the friend they'd lost.
The agency believed one of their own might have gone
rogue - a helicopter was shot down, but no body was
found. J'onn had him captive. J'onn recovered the body,
though it was a trap. He took it back to the housing
development and showed the others. Their fallen comrade
had been infected with the plague that wiped out their
planet.
The team approached by the DEO found J'onn. Vixen
attempted to attack him, but she went right through
him. The Martians won the battle with little injury.
Griggs, their captive, got free and found another
green Martian in the woods nearby. |

FBI
agents captured the woman (Rio) leading the DEO against
the Martians. Alex Ferguson had been a STAR Labs employee.
She was let go, and she met up with a man named Keane.
J'onn went to Batman. They both believed one of the
Martians was killing humans. Batman refused to help
him. J'onn returned home. Alfred, without Bruce's knowledge,
gave J'onn the information he needed. J'onn then grabbed
Keane, who was behind the transfer of someone named
"Scortch." Superman intervened. He gave J'onn an hour
to produce proof that the DEO had infected the Martians
with something.
Dal'en (the killer Martian) attacked J'onn and revealed
himself as a white Martian. |

All
the other Martians reverted to their true white form.
J'onn was able to force Del'an and Telok'telar into
comas. Mica'kel was killed after fighting J'onn in
a mine. J'onn escaped before it exploded.
Rio was double-crossed. Her package was taken after
she and her driver were killed. The shooter took the
box back to Griggs (the rogue agent) and found it
to be empty. Rio had been wearing a kevlar vest.
J'onn found Sara. She was with the last Martian when
he freaked out and turned white. He realized that
they had been as convinced as he was that they were
green Martians. He went after Keane again only to
find that he was truly human. |

Rio
gave J'onn documentation proving Keane was behind everything.
Keane never knew they weren't green Martians. J'onn
kept him from committing suicide in front of them. He
decided the papers would go public.
J'onn went to Superman. He was convinced that there
was another green Martian on Earth. He lured the last
of the whites (Till'all) to him. He convinced him
join him to find out who (or what) was behind the
situation. J'onn entered the white Martian's mind.
J'onn left him; Sara revealed herself as the other
green Martian. She was out to get J'onn because he'd
not killed his brother (who'd unleashed the plague
on Mars).
J'onn introduced Till'all to the JLA. |
