storyline Kyle woke up in what appeared to be space - but everything was red. The two boy's who'd found the lantern were there, too. Kyle constructed them a motorcycle on which they could follow him. They ran into some ugly aliens and the Monarch. He removed his helmet and revealed himself to be Captain Atom. He'd been confined to the suit since the Bludhaven situation. He told Kyle they were in "the bleed," a place between places. Captain Atom had been using it as a place to get away from the Monitors. He spoke of traveling to other Earths. He was able to help Kyle get back to his Earth, and Ion used the Lantern to send the Tangent citizens back to their own world.
Ion took the Lantern to OA and gave it to Guy. The Guardians sent him to a rift in reality located in sector 3388. He asked about the Bleed, but they gave him the cold shoulder. At 3388, he found a base inside an asteroid. Inside were dozens of dead Qwardians. He was greeted by Donna Troy.

Notes, references to time, and chronology:
This is the second half of the Ion mini (the first is here). It's obviously a single continuous story, but is broken up here because that's how DC released the trade paperbacks.
Issue nine reaffirms the One Year Later aspect as one of the children who found the Tangent Lantern said "We had that lantern in our treehouse for over a year..."
