storyline Guy Gardner failed at picking up a woman in his own bar, the Warrior. He turned around to find another Green Lantern, G'nort. The alien told him that the Rann - Thanagar War had all but destroyed his own neutral world. G'nort asked him to help be a neutral arbitrator. In space, Guy was introduced to Major Mazel Dar of Thanagar. She believed her leaders had come under the influence of religious zealots.
Elsewhere, other factions (the Tormocks and the Vuldarians) were at play for themselves only - not for Rann or Thanagar. Each hoped to wipe out the other race. The Tormocks sought the homeworld location of "the Warrior," a name Guy used when he first came to the knowledge of his Vuldarian heritage.
Guy was introduced to a Rannian named Qandra. She was a GL in training, but had ceased her studies until the war was over. He flipped out when he learned they wanted to arbitrate the war at his bar.
Guy and G'nort took the two combatants to Earth to Guy's bar (he didn't really have a problem with using it, he just wanted to argue) and were attacked by Tormocks. They killed all they could, but some escaped. No need for searching them out - Tormocks were shape shifters.

storyline Guy forgot about the war and began dealing with his bar. He went to the cops about it getting trashed, but the detective only made fun of him and "superheroes." So he went to Oa. The Guardians told him the GLC involvement in the war should be kept minimal. He visited the Thanagarian delegate and asked if she wanted to help him chase down the Tormocks who trashed his place.
G'nort told Guy the Tormocks who'd attacked them were in sector 245. The GL pair headed that direction. Guy's ring told him the same Tormocks who trashed his diner had almost destroyed G'newt, G'nort's homeworld. After destroying the Tormocks, his ring told him they'd already completely wiped out the Vuldarians.
Afterwards, a lifeform attacked the four neurologically. Guy was able to save them and destroy their attacker. He and G'nort returned to Oa, where the Guardians told him they were most disappointed. He offered them their ring back, but they let him keep it.
Back at his bar, the Thanagarian picked him up for their date.
