Checkmate
found Black Adam in China. The JSA headed
in to stop his path of destruction. After
he walked through most of the Great Ten, the
people of China opened their borders to help.
The JSA and their allies went in.
The mystics gathered in the Rock of Eternity;
Captain Marvel returned. He'd petitioned the
Egyptian gods to remove Adam's powers, but
they'd refused.
The Steels readied a missile, but Booster
Gold reappeared for the first time since his
death and snatched it.
The flying heroes grabbed him and flew him upward;
Captain Marvel sped downward to meet them, then
called the lightning. He somehow harnessed it,
then threw it at Adam. Black Adam reverted to
human form and was unable to call it back upon
himself - "shazam!" wasn't working. Atom Smasher,
the only person who still believed in Black Adam,
caught him. Captain Marvel told the group he'd
changed the magic word - Black Adam was no more,
but his body was not found.
Rip Hunter and Booster Gold found TO Morrow,
who'd acquired the Red Tornado's head (which
was still repeating "52"). |

[note:
takes place during 52 #50]
Martian Manhunter caught Black Adam in Bialya.
His mind was too strong for J'onn to control;
Black Adam called the lightning twice (reverting
to human form, then back), hitting MM both times.
After getting a taste of what Black Adam's mind
housed, J'onn retreated into space.
Black Adam then took down Father Time (by
ripping his face off) and some American ships
and planes. He tossed an aircraft carrier
at New York.
In New York City, Nightwing (Jason Todd) killed
some looters and took their heist while talking
about responsibility. Firestorm merged with
Firehawk and stopped the aircraft carrier
from hitting the city.
The Martian Manhunter cowered in space - he
could hear and feel all the pain across the
world. |

Supergirl
returned from the future. Harvey Dent continued
crusading against crime in Gotham City. Donna
Troy took up the mantle of Wonder Woman.
Deathstroke stood over Batgirl as they watched
Dent stop Killer Croc. He offered to help
her be what Batman would never let her be.
Martian Manhunter watched on.
Black Adam defeated the Doom Patrol. Booster
Gold winked in, but realized he was too early
and winked out.
Aquaman pleaded with the gods of the sea to
help him raise the city the Spectre crushed.
They gave him the power, and the city - along
with all its inhabitants - was restored. In
return, the gods took his mind and transformed
his body.
Power Girl found Supergirl in a crater she'd
created when she fell to earth. |

The
Teen Titans fought Black Adam in Greece. He
pulled Young Frankenstien's arms off. Zatara
was injured by a falling statue he'd animated.
"Frankie" died of his wounds. Martian Manhunter
tried to soothe his last moments.
Ben Turner (the Bronze Tiger) came home to
find Amanda Waller in his apartment. He ordered
her out, but warmed up when she told him Rick
Flagg was still alive.
The Titans followed Black Adam to the Himalayas,
where Terra was killed in action.
Kate Spencer (the Manhunter) hired Damon Sykes
- she was being set up with her own law firm.
Martian Manhunter, continuing his tour of
the Earth's devastation, stopped for a moment
at the police precinct where he'd first become
"John Jones." After making himself visible
in human form, he morphed into his true form
- he no longer wanted to keep that secret.
He then destroyed the building he'd worked
in as a private investigator (it was empty
and had been condemned). |

Martian
Manhunter watched over his friends as the
heroes waited outside China. He finally made
his presence known with them. China opened
up and let them in. J'onn surveyed the Earth's
leaders' positions. He knew the Spectre was
still without a human host and therefore powerless.
Manhunter went after Black Adam again directly.
He was able to get into his mind and show
him all the pain of the millions of Martians
he'd seen die. Black Adam was stunned long
enough for Captain Marvel to hit him with
a lightning bolt. With their pain as one,
J'onn woke up changed.
The Monitors watched as World War III ended.
