The
Spectre spoke to Crispus Allen - it had been a year
since he died and it was time he made a decision.
He'd originally turned God's instrument of divine
justice down on the job offer.
He'd spent the year watching his family, crimes, and
Batman. Once, while witnessing a cult killing, he'd
been able to touch something tangible - he knocked
a beer bottle off a table. He later found out no charges
would be brought against Corrigan - his own killer.
He agreed to become the Spectre's human host. Their
first job together was a man who'd preyed on children.
The Spectre animated dozens of dolls and they killed
him.
Allen realized the Spectre need him more than he needed
the Spectre. |

The
Spectre struck down a man who killed and placed his
victims' heads in jars. Crispus was having a hard
time seeing what they did as "justice."
The Spectre showed him things from another perspective
- cases from his own past. They disagreed on their
next target - Allen wanted the cultist he'd been following
(who could see him), Spectre took him to a nearby
bank where they watched a robber shoot a woman. They
forced him to shoot himself.
Allen's oldest son bought a gun. The Spectre told
his new host that Corrigan would soon meet his justice.

Allen
was given his first opportunity to decide on a punishment
(but not decide on who received the punishment). A
corporate embezzler was killed by the Spectre spitting
money at him. The Spectre laughed when Allen said
he was ready to decide who receives their wrath. He
was shown just how not ready he was for that. He was
given one choice, and he went after Weiss, the cult
killer.
The oldest Allen son could not go through with killing
his father's murderer, so his little brother took
the gun and went after Corrigan. Cris watched his
son kill his own murderer. Allen realized he must
punish him and he appeared so that he was recognizable.
The Spectre gave him a moment with his son.
The Spectre came clean - he'd used Allen after he
died, before he agreed to become one with him. Once
they were merged, the Spectre punished the man who'd
been Allen's first murder case, a Joker copycat killer.
